A Little History of the Ekka
The Royal Queensland Show, affectionately known as the Ekka, began in 1876 and has grown into Queensland’s largest annual event. Organised by the Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association of Queensland (RNA), the Ekka was created to showcase the state’s agriculture, livestock, innovation and regional communities.
Today, more than 400,000 visitors attend each year, enjoying everything from award-winning produce and woodchopping competitions to carnival rides, live entertainment, fireworks and the famous strawberry ice cream.
For generations of Queensland families, visiting the Ekka has become a treasured tradition—and for many, finishing the day with a great meal is part of that tradition too.
